24 Hours From Q-Town 2016: Hours 4 and 5

Hi Kids,

Yup, still trying to catch up, but fear not, we’re getting there!

But first, some words from our sponsors.

Yes, our sponsors, whose generosity and kind support make this whole thing so darned enjoyable! Our sponsors, whose gifts make for hourly moments of joyous tension, when everyone awaits on the edge of their seats, pens or pencils poised, and a collective deep breath is drawn as I shake the tin containing the ticket numbers, and then draw the winning ticket… and… and call out the lucky number, and the winner joyously exclaims, “It’s meeee!” and all applaud, the winner comes forward to choose their prize amongst the plethora of swell offerings donated by the following:

Comic Warehouse, who have long been big supporters of 7000 B.C.

comicwarehouse

Astro-Zombies, who always have some really cool stuff to donate.

a-zfrontdoor

Lobo Anime and Comics, my Local Comic Shop, and longtime friend to 7000 B.C.

Age of Comics, Greg and Matt are two of our recent supporters, but very generous and we are so appreciative.

And now for some more comics creatin’ action!

We’ll start with our satellite participants:

Elizabeth won this hour’s raffle, and chose the Superman Dailies 1963-1966.

hr4-elizabeth-wins

We’re still waiting for her progress pics, but because she works digitally, her work takes quite a while to render, so we’ll just be patient…

Julie is working away with the help of her apprentice:

As any of you that follow our chronicling of this event know, we also have folks that aren’t here in the flesh, but still want to participate, so they join us remotely.

One such person is Julie, who is joining us from Santa Fe She’s already working on two pages, and here they are:

24 Hours From Q-Town: 2015 – HOURs 23 & 24

Hi Kids!

This is it! We got finishers, more prizes, so let’s get right to it, shall we?

Once again, Aliina finished first, and here she is. I asked her to smile and she gave me varying degrees of insane grins, right up to this…

23 Aliina Finishes

She chose as her prize, a Twin Suns gift certificate

Once again, she’s requested that I give it a title, like we did several years ago, when she created “Artichoke”, so I have christened it “Unsettling” based on the picture above… It’s been a long day…

Then, like 20 minutes later, Mark finished with his “The Best Vaycay Ever!” subtitled, “DON’T LET IT GO TO YOUR HEAD”, which is a relevant clue you’ll get after you read it’s twisty ending… Look for it along side his other 24 Hour Comic, “Phlliam B. Morris at the Circus”, coming soon to a 7000 B.C. comic sales table near you. I might also add that Mark did not know what he wanted to do when he walked in the door, in the best 24 Hour Comics Day tradition (actually, it’s in the rules, as much as we go by rules, heh-heh…), he and I brainstormed for about an hour, “So, I think I’ll make it about an alien, but what will he be doing?” Then, a few minutes later, he exclaimed, “Vacation! That’s it! He’ll be on vacation!” I’ll stop there, lest I give away too many spoilers, but it really is a fun read.

24 Mark finishes

Mark chose as his prize for finishing, an Age of Comics gift certificate.

24 Mark Age of Comics GC for finishing

And then, last but not least, Antonio finished. Of course, by this time we are all so fried from the past 24 hours, that I really don’t remember much about Antonio’s comic, as he was in a hurry to flee. I don’t even remember if he chose a prize…

Oh well…

So that’s it. Another 24 Hours From Q-Town in the can, completed, finished, the end.

But not before another shout out to all of our fine sponsors, without whom, 24 Hour Comics Day would not be possible, or at least nowhere near as cool as it was, with their prizes, coffee, and support.

Thanks again to our oldest supporter of coffee and hot water for tea (lotta tea drinkers this year), Winning Coffee Co.

Should you find yourself in the University area, specifically in the vicinity of 111 Harvard SE, drop in, say “Hi” to Sandy and the crew, and tell ’em that guy from 7000 B.C. that does the 24 Hour Comics blog, sent you. Be sure to buy something from their delicious selection of baked goods, soups, sandwiches, and delicious coffee (and tea), and other fine beverages. Check out the local arts gallery, too.

And if you’re on the east side of town, somewhere around 1016 Juan Tabo NE, Suite D, make sure you go see Henry, Sean, and the rest of the gang at Lobo Anime & Comics, who were kind enough to contribute 3 $10 gift certificates.

LoboAnime

Thanks again to our pals, Astro-Zombies, at 3100 Central SE, for the $10 gift certificate, and my ALL STAR WINNERS vintage comic collection.

A-ZFrontDoor

Way over on the west side of town are Josh and Drew, the twin sons of Twin Suns Comic Books and Game Center, at 6301 Riverside Plaza NW Ste L-1, who also donated 3 $10  gift certificates.

TwinSuns

Our friend Margaret at Old West Comics & Games, whose generosity was overwhelming! See Hour 8 for details…

ooldwestcomicsfront

Matt and Greg at Age of Comics, who donated 3 $10 gift certificates and 4 posters.

AGEofComics

And finally, Jim Lynch of WonderFunders, who not only donated 2 $25 SHARED UNIVERSE gift certificates, bought us pizza from Giovanni’s, helped out by working the final shift of the event, but who also rented the chairs that we all sat on! Thank you so much Jim! As always, you really went the extra mile for us!

19 Good Hearted Jim

That’s all folks! See you next year?

Be Well,

Your pal,

24 Hours From Q-Town: 2015 – HOUR 18

Hi Kids!

Well, there’s only four active creators left: Mark, Mike, Antonio, and Aliina, while Jim is filling the time creating a vampire pic for “Drawlloween”, wherein each day in October, one draws a different monster and then post it on the social media of your choice. Today is vampire. Here’s the list, should you wish to participate:

Drawlloween2015

More progress pics coming up next hour.

Your pal,

Chuck

24 Hours From Q-Town: 2015 – HOUR 17

Hi Kids!

Jim Lynch of WonderFunders, came back, and brought Donettes, Monster Energy drinks, and some candy, and a little sunshine to the still darkened skies outside our little soiree’. He’ll be here for the duration.

Welcome back, Jim!

While Jake and I slept, Mike and Mark plowed on, Aliina snoozed, and Antonio is still snoozing.

Here’s Mark:

And here’s Mike:

Looks like Hannah has a stalker…

On to the next page…

Not a lot else going on, so on to HOUR 18!

Chuck

24 Hours From Q-Town: 2015 – HOUR 12!

Hi Kids!

Here we are at the halfway point: HOUR 12! Is it me, or does it seem to be going faster this year?

Oh well.

As promised, here’s the treat I spoke of last hour:

I’m posting the email Deimosa sent me after I sent her one to see if she would be joining us remotely this year…

Hi everyone,

I wish I was going to be there with you guys! But, to make up for my absence, I wrote about doing 24 hr comic book day with 7000BC in my blog post today for Scholastic:

http://oomscholasticblog.com/post/graphic-novels-education-and-24-hr-comic-book-day

Have fun this weekend!!

All the best,

Deimosa

Omigosh! I just read her article. It was wonderful! Good on ya, Kid!

We are so proud that we could have been instrumental in your progression through life. Thank you for sharing!

I remember that comic you referenced in your article. It was good! At least I thought so. It was a fascinating account of how The Underground Railroad used to used quilts to communicate to escaping slaves when it was safe to move on. I still think about it sometimes. In fact, I still have the pictures:

This also demonstrates what we at 7000 BC are always saying to budding artists, namely you don’t have to be Norman Rockwell or Leonardo da Vinci to tell a story with sequential art.

Not being any kind of artist (even stick figures), I have chosen this blog as my contribution to 24 Hour Comics Day.

So, I hope you enjoyed that interlude. We’ll have more pictures next hour.

Your pal,

Chuck
