Artists’ Mediums Year #4

Rick Evans came up with this fantastic design for our 2010 event. We are hoping to raffle off the hand painted version off during 24HCD, to support the local food shelf here in Williston VT.

Looking forward to October with excitement and a bit of trepidation (this year, I’m finally going to sit and draw, not just help with organizing.)

24HCD Poster Contest

We are looking for the best 24-Hour Comics Day flyer this year to use as our official flyer and we know you have the right design!

We will take submissions of flyer designs between now and July 31st and the winner will become our official 24HCD flyer. The designer will be credited on the flyer and on 24hourcomicsday.com.

All submissions to the contest will be considered art donations to ComicsPRO. You retain the rights to your artwork but you are donating the design for ComicsPRO’s unlimited use (and the use of event hosts around the world!) for promotional purposes. We will not sell copies of your artwork.

The contest does not have a paid prize but ComicsPRO will send a thank-you package to the winner filled with comics and other goodies! Your artwork will also be used around the world!

Details for the flyer:

It needs to print on an 8.5″ by 11″ sheet of paper (you should leave some border space)

We need a color version and a black & white version

“24-Hour Comics Day” should be prominent and readable, and you can use the logo if you want to include it. It must also promote the event date: October 2, 2010

This flyer will be used by event hosts to advertise the 24HCD event to artists in their local areas, so your flyer should have some text describing what artists do during the event. An example would be:

“Take the 24-Hour Comics Day challenge: create a 24-page comic, start to finish, in 24 consecutive hours!”

(You can use your own text for the flyer as long as it describes the event.)

The flyer must have blank space at the bottom for the event host to include their location information and other details. We recommend leaving a box at least 2″ tall that runs the width of the flyer but the exact dimensions are up to you.

Please send your flyer to 24hcd@comicspro.org. Please do not send files that are larger than 1MB. Since many high-resolution, printable designs will be larger than that, please consider sending a thumbnail of your design and link to the actual file.

Thank you for creating the best 24-Hour Comics Day flyer!

About donating to ComicsPRO:

ComicsPRO is a non-profit organization (501c6) but not a charity (which is a 501c3). So donations to ComicsPRO aren’t itemized as charitable donations. However, if you work in comics or design and you itemize your business expenses, a donation to ComicsPRO can be considered a business expense–please check with your accountant for the correct way to record your donation!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Amanda Emmert

Oct. 2, 2010 will be the date of the 7th annual 24-Hour Comics Day! The date was announced by the 24HCD Committee at the ComicsPRO Annual Membership Meeting in Memphis, Tenn.

24-Hour Comics Day is an annual challenge for cartoonists to produce a 24-page comic book written, drawn, and completed in 24 consecutive hours. ComicsPRO, the comic book specialty retailer trade group organizes the day with the enthusiastic endorsement of the event’s founder, Nat Gertler, publisher of About Comics.

24HCD Documentary

Hello!

My name is Daniel Larson and this year was my first experience with the 24 Hour Comic event. I’ve been drawing comics for several years and had heard of the event before, but was never able to participate. This year, my schedule allowed me to jump in. I decided to invite a filmmaker friend of mine to come along and document the experience. What we created was a 37 minute documentary about the event at Double Midnight Comics in Manchester, NH.

A few links to get you started:

My website: www.circlecomics.com
My 24 Hour Comic: http://www.comicspace.com/circlecomics/comics.php?action=read&file_id=307394

Because the film was so long, we had to break it into 2 separate parts for viewing online:

Part 1- http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbehen_24-pages-pt-1-of-2_creation
Part 2- http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbeht7_24-pages-pt-2-of-2_creation

Hope you enjoy it!

24 Hour Comics Day in New Mexico 2009 Wrapup

Created with flickrSLiDR.

24 Hour Comics Day 2009 at the Harwood Art Center had a great turnout this year! We may have had the largest attendance of any location in the world, with 41 people making the attempt (including 2 who worked from home and kept in contact with us throughout the night).

We had 11 people who made the trek from Santa Fe, Ms. Webber-Bey and a big group of her Comic Club students from Albuquerque, and Mike Hanlon who came all the way from Alamogordo! Thanks, Mike. Most folks stuck with us at least until morning. In the end, 16 24-page comics were completed by 18 creators (2 were made by 2 people collaborating).

Check out the coverage from the event:

Thanks to the Harwood Art Center for their generous support, and to all of our sponsors:

We finished our work in Muhos County Library at Sunday 4.10.11.00 am. local time.

We had finally 31 participants . 26 of them finished all 24 pages . Three left an incomplete work and two did not leave work at all.
